GAO Earns a #1 Spot in the Best Places to Work Rankings

Washington, D.C. (June 29, 2021) – The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has been named the best place to work for mid-size government agencies, according to the latest rankings issued today by the Partnership for Public Service.  GAO placed number one overall among mid-size agencies.

"I take great pride in GAO’s designation as a number one best place to work, a rating that reflects the high regard our employees have for the agency and its mission,” said Gene L. Dodaro, Comptroller General of the United States and the head of the GAO.

Issued yearly, the Partnership's rankings provide insights into federal employees' satisfaction with their jobs and offices. GAO has consistently placed among the top five overall since 2005; it placed first among mid-size agencies this year with a score of 89.4.  The 2020 ratings reflect survey results from federal workers across the federal government.

GAO also has consistently ranked number one in diversity for mid-size federal agencies, but the diversity questions were not asked across the federal government in 2020. Consequently, the Partnership did not release such diversity rankings this year.

Senate Passes Resolution Marking GAO’s Century of Service

Washington, D.C. (June 24, 2021)—The United States Senate has unanimously passed a resolution recognizing July 1, 2021, as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Government Accountability Office (GAO). The June 22 resolution (S. Res. 282) commends the watchdog agency for a century of service to Congress and the nation and offers the Senate’s continuing support for GAO’s mission.
